Department of Computer Science has planned the Industrial visit at IIT Delhi, New Delhi (Main campus) on 02 May 2023. This visit was for Second year students of computer science branch.
On 02th May, Two Buses departed from KIET Campus at 8:30 AM and reached IIT Delhi, New Delhi around 10 AM.
Ms.Namita, Director, welcomed all students and faculty members.
Total 67 students attended the Global Science, Innovation and Research Summit organised by CII in the Seminar Hall of IIT Delhi campus.
The students witnessed various historical moments by attending the session as it was a part of G20 Summit of India. It widened their horizons regarding the startup investments and Research and Innovation Policies offered by the government. The details of the various sessions are as given below:
Inaugural Session (10 a.m)
Release of Compendium on ‘Women in STEM 2.0’ Release of Report on Women in STEM.
Session 1: Harnessing Industry Investment in R&D (11:20a.m.)
India is expected to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world. To become a 6 trillion-dollar economy by 2030, India would need to grow at around 7.5 percent over the next 7 to 8 years. A consistently high growth rate of around 7.5 percent would make India a 20 trillion-dollar economy by 2047. and to achieve this, India needs significant investments in R&D and hence India needs to set an interim target of national R&D spending to be 2.5 percent of the GDP by 2030 and 4 percent of GDP by 2047. Towards this, it is important that Industry in India scales up its investment in R&D from the current level of 37% to a global average of 60%.
Session 2: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India: Linking CSR and R&D (12:30p.m)
R&D funding through CSR, is covered in some aspects in Schedule VII of CSR Act in terms of contribution to incubators or research and development projects in the field of science, technology, engineering, and medicine. funded by the Central Government or State Government or Public Sector Undertaking or any agency of the Central Government or State Government; and Contributions to public funded Universities; Indian Institute of Technology (IlTs): National Laboratories and autonomous bodies under various scientific ministries engaged in conducting research in science, technology, engineering and medicine aimed at promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) hence there is immense scope.
Session 3: Bridging the Valley of Death through Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) (2:15p.m.)
An innovation process should take an idea all the way from research to the market. In view of this, it is important to establish a systematic, consistent framework for assessment of TRL including the definitions, processes, questionnaires, and methodologies followed across different organizations for every TRL level. A systematic process of TRL assessment, will help bridge the valley of death.
Session 4: Encouraging Women in STEM (3:15 p.m.)
India has 43 percent women STEM graduates, but only 14 per cent are recruited in the workforce. The representation and empowerment of women in STEM is very important as it is one of the key factors that determines the future of Science and Technology. The entire ecosystem - the Government, academia and industry must make collective efforts to encourage and enable women to pursue STEM in education.
Session 5: Fostering National Research Quad (NRQ) (4:15 p.m):
There is a need for a clear and correct emphasis on the collective and cohesive working of four key stakeholders in the technology ecosystem - Industry, Academia, Research labs and Start-ups - which we refer to as the ‘National Research Quad' (NRQ). The recent budget announcement on making ICMR labs is a right step in this direction
